Folks, I am so so super excited about this because I've been dreaming about creating a line of wedding invites for a long, long time, and decided this January that I was going to do it. I made myself a plan to break it down by drawing out draft ideas, creating the different parts for it, and giving myself time to clean them up. So I think for me, a big part of me is really excited about this because it means I DID IT! WOOO!!!! I can check that off!!!
I decided to name these suites after songs I listened to/have been obsessed with while creating them. These songs may not all be the first to come to mind when one thinks of weddings, but I think they all still express love in different ways, and they're also just stuck in my head, k?
COMING HOME - Soft, Romantic, Sweet
baby, baby, baby
i'm coming home
to your tender sweet loving
you're my only woman
(Coming Home - Leon Bridges)
I first came up with the concept of this suite while designing the save the date for my best friend's wedding, and I just couldn't let go of this wreath! I love the colours of this - the soft greens and light peaches - light, sweet, and romantic.
We saw Leon Bridges live in Montreal in the fall of 2015, and after that, I couldn't stop listening to him. His voice is so smooth, and what struck me about his performance was not just his charming dancing, but also how kind and grateful he was to all those around him. Sweet and soulful!
ALL THAT - Modern, Minimalist, Clean
i'll be your lighthouse when you're lost at sea
i'll keep my light on baby you can always come to me
i wanna be the place you call your home
just let me in your arms
just let me in your arms
(All That - Carly Rae Jepsen)
A suite for those who are looking for something a little different - a desire to keep things minimal in black and white and clean typography, but also a touch of the vintage with botanical ink drawings. This suite totally happened just through playing - I knew I wanted another wreath suite, but didn't plan on this one until I started playing with some botanical drawings!
I got really into Carly Rae Jepsen's 2015 album - pop with lots of throwbacks to the 80s and 90s, and I couldn't get this particular song out of my head, so knew it had to weave its way in here somehow!
I WANNA GET BETTER - Classy, Elegant, Fun
i didn't know i was lonely till i saw your face
i wanna get better
(I Wanna Get Better - Bleachers)
I wanted to create a suite that was simple and clean, but also incorporated greenery without being overly lush. This suite grew out of these fern drawings I was doing, and I liked keeping them as just ink drawings so they stayed minimal. I also wanted to create a suite that didn't look super girly or bridal, and didn't need to be necessarily themed, but was still elegant and celebrated nature.
I really love the entire Bleachers album - I listened to the original one, and then Terrible Thrills, Vol 2, which is all covers of their album done by female artists. The songs are fun, so interesting, and definitely something new for the ears!
Yay!!! They're up in the shop today!
Until then, happy listening and viewing! :)
