It's been such a beautiful summer here in Vancouver so far, and our first three months have been filled with lots of going outside and just being in general amazement and wonder at getting to be so close to mountains and beaches and an ocean. We've gone hiking a few times, which is a really big feat for us, as I don't think we've ever really done a proper hike prior to being here...!
It hasn't all been rainbows and butterflies; this is my third big move in five years (!), and with the third time round, I know very well that this is a season of transition, and settling in and making a home in a new city takes time and lots of grace and patience. I remember when I was preparing for this move I could feel myself getting anxious just thinking about what being in a new city and a new community would feel like, knowing I'd probably feel uncomfortable for the first few months, if not the first year, but I remember not really viscerally being able to remember what it felt like to be in a new place. Now that we're actually here and living the transition, it's more uncomfortable than I remember, but I also know it's been good in terms of reviving my heart. As a Christian, where my faith drives who I am and what I do, big moves have always driven me to lean on Jesus all the more, and I am thankful for that. One of my favourite quotes in this season has been this one:
I have learned to kiss the wave that throws me against the Rock of Ages.
- Charles Spurgeon
With all that said, I'm really excited about this fall season and the continuing transition it is for us, including starting up some fall fairs! I was super pro-active (!) and tried to apply for a bunch of different fairs in Vancouver to get to know the craft and art community here, and I'm excited to announce that I've got quite a number for the fall. So if you're a Vancouver local, I would so so LOVE to meet you! I've got a bunch of a new things for this fall, including a project that I've wanted to do for probably a year now, and some new cards.
So, here's my schedule for the fall:
September 17-18: Portobello West Fall Market
Creekside Community Recreation Centre, 11am-5pm
September 24-25: Etsy Vancouver Market: Made in Canada
The Pipe Shop Building, 10am-5pm
October 22: Fall for Local Pop Up Market
The Pipe Shop Building, 11am-4pm
So hoping to see and meet some new Vancouver friends!
